59 to King's Cross

How does a year fade so fast
when it’s only just begun?
I’ve not ticked lists or become new
I’m still clueless and blue

Where does the robin’s song come from
when the seasons hide and blur?

N’mount of snow to brush my eyes
will blind me from “I saw the signs”

Falling sleet breaks the smog
whilst pine needles prick feet
Tinsel carpets, worn out socks
and the choir that’s just ‘bout to knock

From the condensated pane
I watch the road crack then freeze
Buses break, kneecaps fall

as the 59 to King’s Cross it crawls

In the chaos still remains
yesteryear’s blanket of fear

Rising tides, an orange peel

a crowd scream’n “done with this deal!”

We’ll all know what Christmas is
when the papers run out of ink
Our trumpets pierce through lonely fog
as we run to everyman with his dog
